The Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company (NMMC) was established on September 1, 1958. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of thousands of workers, engineers, scientists, and leaders, the cities of Navoi, Zarafshan, and Uchkuduk, with modern infrastructure, rose up in the Kyzylkum desert.
The discovery of the Muruntau deposit was one of the most important breakthroughs in precious metals mining in the second half of the 20th century due to its vast gold reserves and favorable mining geology. In 1967, the first blasting took place at the Muruntau mine, marking the start of open-pit mining. In 1969, the first gold bar, weighing 11.82 kg, was produced. The Kyzylkum desert region became the largest gold mining hub in Uzbekistan.
Since Uzbekistan’s independence in 1991, NMMC has opened several new production facilities have been put into operation at NMMC, incorporating the latest technologies and scientific advancements.
In recent years, NMMC has become one of the world’s top four gold producers. As a major industrial cluster, it operates a full production cycle. The 999.9 fineness mark on NMMC gold bars has become a symbol of Uzbekistan’s reputation on global precious metals exchanges.
