NMMC is one of the largest employers and taxpayers in Uzbekistan, providing about 17% of the state budget
NMMC administers a range of social and economic projects and programs aimed at supporting local communities. These include the modernization and material and technical support of social facilities, as well as charitable projects aimed at supporting low-income families and pensioners, and donations and sponsorship for socio-economic initiatives in science, healthcare, sports, and the arts.
In 2023, NMMC built two large social facilities: a specialized boarding school for 504 pupils in the Tamdyn district of Navoi region, meeting modern requirements for educational institutions, and the International Chess School at the Tudakul recreation center. The International Chess School can train 100 students, is fully equipped and meets FIDE requirements for holding international chess tournaments with up to 250 participants.
Creating a diverse and equitable environment is key to promoting inclusiveness and increasing productivity across all of NMMC’s divisions.
NMMC actively supports and participates in initiatives aimed at expanding women’s rights and supporting the gender agenda. Since 2020, the Company has been promoting its Principles of Gender Equality and Promotion of Women’s Rights. The Company has a Women’s Council, and each NMMC division has female representatives responsible for gender equality programs. The Council’s work plan is prepared annually and approved taking into account the opinions of local municipal government and citizen groups and representatives of religious organizations. Meetings and events are held to promote and protect women’s rights, encourage them to receive education, and discuss family and interpersonal relations. The proportion of women in the Company’s workforce is 13%, the highest in Uzbekistan.
In August 2024, NMMC became the first Uzbek company to join the International Women in Mining association (IWiM).
NMMC is working to create a strong safety culture based on individual and shared responsibility and is committed to the continuous improvement of safety performance including low LTIFR ratio and zero fatalities.
NMMC plans to develop more digital health and safety tools, including a real-time employee positioning system and an automatic pre-shift medical care system.
NMMC has implemented occupational health and safety (OHS) management based on developing a safety culture, ensuring continuous improvement of OHS competencies, and preventing accidents and emergencies.
To improve occupational health and safety control, an automated OHS management information system (AIS AMISOS) was introduced and a unified database of facilities, employees and documents related to health and safety at NMMC was created. A digital platform was introduced to analyze the results of inspections of employees and workplaces for compliance and conformity with OHS rules.
A comprehensive digital occupational health and safety training course on safety rules for open pit mining has also been developed. Future plans include the development of similar distance learning programs on safety rules for underground mining operations and safety when working with tools and equipment, as well as a distance learning program on occupational safety in the processing industry, thereby covering the entire production cycle.
In addition, NMMC has implemented the international standard ISO 45001:2018 at the Central Ore Department, which covers 21,178 employees and further reduces risks to employees and accidents at NMMC facilities.
One of NMMC’s main values is to ensure career growth for each employee. NMMC pursues a human resources policy based on effective recruitment, development and retention of highly qualified personnel. NMMC constantly strives to improve working conditions, compensation and motivation systems, as well as to encourage training and talent development and increase social support for employees.
The NMMC Employee Trade Union Council represents the interests of employees and monitors the fulfillment of the employer’s obligations. All NMMC employees (including retirees) are covered by the Collective Agreement concluded between the Company and the Employee Trade Union Council.
The Collective Agreement provides an extensive package of benefits and defines NMMC’s obligations as an employer in the field of labor protection, ensuring proper working conditions, and maintaining the optimal health and social security of employees.
NMMC trains its employees to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to work in a modern production environment. Professional development programs at NMMC contribute to the formation of a new generation of highly qualified employees with knowledge in geological exploration, gold mining, ecology and other areas.
NMMC operates its own training centers that ensure continuous learning and offer a wide variety of training programs tailored to the company’s needs. These centers are located in Navoi, Zarafshan, and Uchkuduk, along with two training and course complexes in the Southern and Northern mining administrations. Annually, more than 15,000 NMMC specialists receive training at these centers. In 2024, a distance learning platform was launched for all employees, providing a significant enhancement to the professional development system.
